Tambopata-Candamo
One of the favourite places for ornithologists from all over the world, and where a greater number of species of birds can be observed is the Tambopata-Candamo Reserve, situated in the Madre de Dios department,at two hours in boat from Puerto Maldonado.

In the same region lays the Baguaja Sonene National Park, 700.000 hectare completely uninhabited. The place is world famous for the biggest “colpa” where macaws (parrots) gather. In these clay deposits which contain mineral salts, a great number and variety of animals congregate to ingest these salts
The most common macaws are the Ara macao, with an orange-red head and body; the blue and yellow coloured Ara ararauna; and the red en green coloured Ara chloroptera.
